Potty training a giant schnauzer may be a hassle and a challenge to many pet owners. But keep in mind that the reason why it is essential for your pet is for them to establish a routine they can follow. Potty training will increase their likelihood of eliminating in the right place. So how can you potty train your giant schnauzer effectively?

Before you start potty training, there are a few things that you should consider. First, try to observe your pets as to when they want to eliminate. If you have puppies, expect their need to go to potty frequently. And if you live in a residential building, potty training may be approached differently as compared to living in a home with a spacious backyard. And lastly, you have to carefully plan your training strategy by having a few supplies such as a crate, a leash, treats, your patience, and your time. Once you’re ready, you can decide which of the following methods will be effective to potty train your giant schnauzer.

The Quick Method.

This is a simple type of method in potty training for your giant schnauzer. You can do this if you have lots of time keeping an eye for your dog. Watch for signs like whining, fussing, and circling on one spot. When your giant schnauzer does these behaviors, take him out of the house immediately because he may want to go potty already.

When he’s done, be sure to praise your pet and give him a treat. If you’re going to practice this method, do this every morning, after a nap, and every after he eats and drinks.

Crate Method.

If you’re a busy person, and you can’t always watch your dog every time he wants to go potty, then buy a crate that is spacious enough for your giant schnauzer to stand and sit, pee and poop in one area, and nap when needed. Make sure your pet is comfortable inside his crate by letting him outside the crate for 30 minutes and place him inside in between potty breaks.

Always give him praises and a treat when he’s done. When you choose this method, keep working with him until your giant schnauzer learns where he is expected to go potty.

Potty Spot Method.

For this method, you’ll need to set up a potty break schedule that your dog can carefully follow. Choose a spot outside your yard where your giant schnauzer can use as a personal toilet and spray it with potty training spray that you can purchase from a pet store.

Take your pet outside to the spot and let him wander for about 15 minutes and go potty. Do this frequently like when he wakes up in the morning, after a nap, after a meal, and right before bed.

Train him this method more often until your giant schnauzer will start to let you know that he needs to go potty.

Remember, time, patience, consistency and positive reinforcement are key to effectively potty train your giant schnauzer. You as an owner should be willing to work with a pet so that he can master his skill making him a perfectly housetrained Giant Schnauzer.
