It’s Thanksgiving! While you’re busy preparing for your family’s holiday feast, don’t forget to prepare something for your giant schnauzers. For sure they don’t want to be left out and your furry friends are as important as any family member. But what are the foods that you can safely give them on Thanksgiving? Here are the following safe and healthy foods that your giant schnauzer can munch on.

High fiber foods

Sweet potatoes and potatoes are good sources of fiber, Vitamins B6 and C, and beta carotene. If you plan to give your pets these vegetables, make sure to boil or bake it, and remove the skin. Avoid adding any ingredients such as butter, sour cream, salt, and pepper, and make sure to serve them in moderate amounts. 

Pumpkins are also good sources of nutrients and fiber as it promotes healthy digestion and improves your dog’s skin and coat. Both fresh and canned pumpkins can be given safely to your giant schnauzers. Always check the label of canned pumpkins. As long as there are no added spices, to keep them from being sick.

Fruits

Fruits that you can safely give to your pets are apples, bananas, and cantaloupes. These fruits have high amounts of Vitamins A, B, and C and most contain fiber which are healthy treats for your canine companion. For apples, don’t let your dogs eat the seeds as it may be toxic for them, so try to cut around the core when you share your apple with your pooch.

Beans and peas

Plain green beans are best for your pets, especially with no added ingredients. Green beans contain fiber, manganese, Vitamins C, and K enough for your giant schnauzer to have a healthy gut. Only serve plain peas instead of creamed peas to keep your pet from stomach upset. Peas have lots of fiber, Vitamins A, C, and K as well as protein that are good for your dogs.

Can giant schnauzers eat turkey?

You probably want to ask this question and the answer is yes. Just don’t give them bones and skin and make sure to let your furry friend eat cooked not raw turkey meat. Make sure they only eat the turkey meat and not the stuffing, garlic, onion, and other spices as these ingredients may cause potential harm to your pets. Always feed your dog in small amounts.

Though you may be enjoying your Thanksgiving feast, here are the following foods that you should not let your pet eat or taste due to its potential toxicity:

  • Turkey bones, skin, and gravy
  • Stuffing of turkey
  • Mashed potatoes

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Yeast dough
  • Raisins and grapes
  • Chocolates
